Katherine Hurley

Biography

M. Katherine Hurley is a Cleveland, Ohio native where her family has been working in the liturgical arts for many generations. Katherine has studied art and art history in Europe and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Mt. St. Joseph in Cincinnati in 1974. She has continued her studies by attending the Cincinnati Art Academy and workshops with nationally known artist Wolf Kahn. Since 1976, Katherine has been a practicing professional artist and art consultant. She has been a guest professor and speaker and is committed to the responsibility of “giving the gift” back to the community. Her work has received numerous awards and is part of private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Europe. “For me, the mystery of the landscape is a metaphor for life––full of transitions. Some are soft and delicate, others more severe. I am fascinated by the way elements of Nature meet one another. Lines and edges are lost and found; realism and abstraction merge; contrast, color and value are dramatic or subtle. I want my finished work to transform with the light of the day, taking the viewer where they need to go at that moment.”
