Biography
Dolors Curell graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona in 1978, in painting. At the same time, she took courses on Restoration and Engraving at the same university. Since 1977, Dolors Curell has combined teaching and painting, with courses on Art Theory, Design and New Technologies applied to fine arts. She has also participated in many exhibitions. After 1978, Dolors started showing her work at numerous individual and collective exhibitions in cities such as Madrid, Cuenca, Barcelona and Geneva. During this period, many museums and private collectors such as Fundación La Caixa, Fundación y Museo Vila Casas, Enciclopedia Catalana and the World Trade Organization purchased her works. The current theme of her paintings revolves around landscapes, fields, coasts, beaches, the sea and urban landscapes, which are essentially figurative by recognizing their components. Dolors Curell uses acrylic on canvas, intense and highly saturated colors and flat inks on rich chromatic surfaces. Her landscapes are not a minute description of the environment but experiences, memories and feelings, shades of stormy skies, the strength of color in a field and its horizon, as well as the intense Mediterranean blue. Dolors Curell always rids her work of elements that may distract the viewer’s attention. Simplicity, the importance of color and composition make up her evolving work from an informalist abstraction.
